Lago degli Idoli is the most important archaeological site in Casentino, where one of the most conspicuous testimonies of the cult of the Etruscan world was collected. Located in Ciliegeta (1380 m a.s.l.), south of the summit of Monte Falterona and a few hundred meters from the Capo D’Arno source, it is geographically the central point of connection between the Tuscan and Emilian Apennines. In the 6th century a.C. the Etruscans considered Monte Falterona sacred and therefore threw their offerings in the lake of Ciliegeta, near the sources of the Arno river. Numerous Etruscan findings have been found from 1838 until today, some of this are preserved in the British Museum in London and the Louvre in Paris.
