Campigna

In 1976, according to the European Council, the entire Campigna forest was recognized as a biogenetic nature reserve; there is a naturalistic museum open by request.

The eighteenth-century Grand Ducal palace, transformed into a hotel, was the hunting lodge of the Lorena until the last century. The State Forestry Corps, both in Camaldoli and Badia Prataglia, houses a naturalistic museum open by request. A short distance away, a columnar trunk of silver fir, lying on the ground, is a testament to the majesty and the huge heritage that the Campigna forest possessed. A large part of Bidente of Campigna valley is covered by the fir and beech forest which, near the ridge, gives way to pure beech wood. In 1976, thanks to the European Council, the whole area was recognized as a biogenetic nature reserve. The purpose of the reserve is: preserve a highly representative part of the Apennine mountain landscape and protect the precious heritage of biological, floristic and faunal diversity in it.
