Acquacheta is the most important tributary of Montone and before reaching S. Benedetto in Alpe, it makes a jump of over 70 meters in the homonymous waterfall. The waterfall, described by Dante in Canto XVI of Inferno, can only be reached through a two-hour trek that goes up the valley and getting to the suggestive Piana dei Romiti with the ruins of the ancient village, just upstream of the waterfall.
