Il Ponte Nuovo in Giumella

Near Premilcuore, an important and picturesque town in the upper Rabbi valley, characterized by a fortified medieval core and dominated by the castle of the Counts Guidi. Under the arch of the Ponte Nuovo di Giumella the waters of the Rabbi fall into a deep eddy called "The screaming cave".

Ponte Nuovo is located in Giumella, about 3 km from Premilcuore,which represents the only inhabited center in the upper Rabbi valley and  it is characterized by the fortified medieval nucleus, dominated by the castle of the Guidi counts in the middle of a solitary and wild territory,. The bridge was built around the 17th century and was named to distinguish it from the more ancient “Ponte a scanno”, which collapsed. It is the crossing point of the Rabbi river, that it’s also the ancient Florentine road remains. it is formed by a single arch of 16 meters which rises on a gorge where the river waters fall into a deep gorge called “The screaming cave”.
